Fox Barrel Cider Awarded Gold Medal at the 2006 Great Lakes Olde World Syder Competition
Press Release; February 2007
Fox Barrel Cider Company recently received a round of medals from the Great Lakes Olde World Syder Competition (GLOWS) in December. Their Pear Cider received gold and the Black Currant received silver, both in the Fruit Cider category. Their Apple Cider took bronze in the Common Cider category.
GLOWS is the only national competition exclusively dedicated to cider. The 2006 competition saw some 135 entries overall in both the commercial and non-commercial categories.
“It’s really nice to see that the work we’re doing is good enough to be rewarded at the national level,” co-founder Bruce Nissen said. “It’s one thing to win it at state level but to take it to a national level is really exciting.”
Fox Barrel, once a young company, is now beginning to mature. They released their first product for sale in early 2005. Ten thousand cases later, the company is still focused on producing high quality ciders using local apple juice. Their products are currently available throughout California, Oregon, and Washington. In March, Fox Barrel’s tasting room will be open on the weekends for cider enthusiasts to visit and have a pint.
